Got asked to quote a designer for a one-pager last week. £2500, five-day turnaround. Meanwhile Claude Design dropped on Thursday and I had something usable in twenty minutes. More on that below.

Claude Design
Your first draft in 20 minutes
On 17 April, Anthropic launched Claude Design — a visual workspace where you describe what you want in plain English and Claude builds it on a live canvas. Pitch decks. One-pagers. UI wireframes. Marketing briefs. No Figma account. No Canva templates. Just a conversation.
It runs on Claude Opus 4.7 and it's included in your existing Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan at claude.ai/design. No extra charge.
The part that actually matters for an SMB: you feed it your brand guide once — colours, fonts, logo — and every output inherits those standards automatically. So the third thing you make looks as consistent as the first. That's a problem freelancers solve by charging you for their time. Claude just absorbed it into the subscription you're already paying.
Early users report getting to a presentation-ready deck in 10 to 20 minutes, compared to two or three hours starting from a blank PowerPoint. That's not a marginal improvement. That's the difference between doing it before the meeting and not doing it at all.
Worth knowing: it's a research preview, so it's not pixel-perfect and it'll consume your usage cap faster than regular Claude chat. Don't use it for final print assets. Do use it for client presentations, internal briefs, and anything you'd otherwise put off because the design step felt too slow.

Using AI isn't the same as using AI
Accenture published a report this week finding that only one in ten UK organisations has successfully scaled AI into core operations. Separately, AWS research from the same week found that 64% of UK businesses now use AI — but only 24% have reached the stage where it's part of actual core processes. That 40-point gap is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
The sharpest number in the Accenture data: 46% of UK executives say removing AI entirely would have no material effect on their operations. That's not an adoption problem. That's a decoration problem. AI is sitting on people's desktops like a gym membership paid for, occasionally used, not moving the needle.
This is actually good news for you. If your competitors are using Claude to draft emails but haven't changed a single workflow around it, the gap between you and them is closable in an afternoon. The people running laps are still a minority.

Three things worth trying this week
All free or already in your plan. No agency, no setup call.
Claude Design — Build a branded one-pager or pitch deck in plain English. Feed it your logo and brand colours once, then let it run. Start at claude.ai/design. Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise only and no free tier.
Claude Design → Canva handoff — Finished your draft in Claude Design? Export directly to Canva for collaborative editing, or as PPTX if you need to share with someone who lives in PowerPoint. The handoff is one click.
Claude Projects for proposals — If you write proposals or quotes regularly, create a Claude Project and load in your standard pricing, service descriptions, and tone-of-voice notes. Every proposal you draft from inside that Project will pull from the same context, without you pasting it in every time.

The Claude Design launch landed loud on Thursday. Here's what people actually said.

Case Study
Client meeting. No deck. 40 minutes.
Picture this: you've agreed to pitch a new client on Friday. It's Wednesday afternoon. You know what you want to say. You don't have a designer, don't have time to wrestle with PowerPoint, and you're not paying £2500 for a freelancer to produce five slides by Thursday.
This is the exact problem Claude Design was built for. Here's a prompt that works:
"Create a five-slide pitch deck for [your business name], a [what you do] based in [city]. Audience: a prospective client in [their industry]. Slides: 1. The problem we solve. 2. How we solve it. 3. A relevant result or case study. 4. What working with us looks like. 5. Next step. Brand colours: [hex codes]. Font: [font name or 'clean sans-serif']. Tone: confident but not salesy."
Claude will build a first version. You iterate in chat — move things around, tighten copy, adjust the colour on a heading. Documented use suggests 10 to 15 minutes for a usable draft, versus two or three hours starting from scratch. Export as PDF or PPTX and you're done.
Not pixel-perfect. But good enough to walk into Friday's meeting without apology.
That’s it for this week.
Still thinking about that Accenture stat. 46% of executives say switching AI off tomorrow would change nothing. That's a lot of subscriptions doing very little. Don't be that statistic.
